BAITBOX started life in 1995 as a tiny frozen bait firm working from a garden shed! Seventeen years later we are the largest frozen bait firm in the UK as well as being the largest distributor of Mainline carp baits in Britain.In 2010 we launched PIKEPRO a new range of premium pike tackle to cater for the discerning pike angler.

BAITBOX SEABAITS

Blast frozen sandeels are one of the key sea angling baits and BAITBOX make extraordinary efforts to ensure our sandeels are of the very highest quality. Once our sandeels are caught they are delivered alive to our processing unit where they are swum in chilled filtered and aerated tanks. We then carefully net out small batches and stun them so they lay still but can still be packed while alive. Once vacuum packed they are straight into the blast freezer which freezes down to minus 37C all this ensures BAITBOX produce the best quality blast frozen sandeels in the UK. We no longer use wholesalers to distribute any of our frozen bait as we would lose control of the distribution process and couldn’t guarantee the quality of our baits. Now we supply all shops direct and as long as the retailer looks after his bait we will guarantee you won’t find better blast frozen bait. Mackerel is another mainstay of the sea bait market. We only buy line caught fish that we pack and blast freeze within hours of capture. Trawled mackerel can be bought for less than half the price of line caught fish but if you want the best quality mackerel then line caught fish is the only option.

Baitbox introduced blast frozen blueys onto the UK sea angling market back in 2007.The internet forums had a fair few knockers claiming blueys where a gimmick and as a foreign fish wouldn’t be readily eaten by our UK species. Baitbox knew that blueys were a top bait and had proved this with extensive field testing from our consultants such as Steve Souter and George Smith. We spent a lot of money advertising and promoting blueys but in the end they did their own marketing job catching a lot of fish and are now accepted as a frontline sea angling bait. A fact we are very proud of.Incedentally blueys real name is Pacific Saury. Vicke Bird one of the directors at Baitbox thought it was a bit of a mouthful and coined the name blueys which seems to have stuck. BAITBOX have been trying to promote unwashed Falkland squid as the no1 squid bait for a long time and it seems that the message is really getting across now with more and more anglers using it. Roughly the same size and colour as Californian squid we sell our unwashed squid in handy 1lb vacuum bags which seal in the freshness. Put simply unwashed Falkland squid is a far better bait than washed Californian loligo squid, its frozen at sea with all its natural juices intact this means it releases masses more scent in the water than its Californian rival which is latterly washed out before it gets on your hook !!

Other blast frozen sea baits that BAITBOX produce include black lugworm, razor fish, mussel, peeler crab, herring, launce, scallop frills, and cuttlefish.

BAITBOX PIKEBAITS

BAITBOX have for a long time been the UKs no1 pike bait supplier. We first made our mark when we launched lampreys onto the pike angling scene back in 1995. Lamprey has gone on to become an all time favourite deadbait. John Watto Watson has been our consultant for over fifteen years and it was his success with our lamprey that caused a real stir when the Angling Times did a two page feature on this “new” bait. Lamprey has become increasingly difficult to get hold of and its price has risen alarmingly however if you look at its catching record and the durability of the bait it still earns its place at the top table of the deadbaiting world.

Another deadbait that’s firmly at the top table is smelt, available in a wide range of sizes with its distinctive cucumber smell smelt has accounted for a lot of big pike. All our blast frozen deadbaits are PAC approved which means our freshwater fish are all traceable farmed fish with full health certificates. This legal health checked supply is very important with concerns mounting over the source of some coarse fish. As well as lamprey and smelt we have a massive range of other deadbaits including, trout, salmon parr, perch, skimmer bream, roach, eel, launce, sandeel, blueys, sardine, mackerel, herring and pollan.

With over sixteen years in the deadbait business we like to think we know a thing or two about deadbaiting and after a lot of research and development we made the decision to create PIKEPRO a new brand of premium pike tackle aimed at the discerning pike angler. John Watto Watson has been very busy field testing and developing two new rods for us this winter accounting for a lot of pike along the way including a 27lb fish from the broads. The new rods are hand made in the UK by top rod builders using specially developed blanks created by Harrison Advanced Rods exclusively for PIKEPRO. Each rod comes with a hand signed certificate of authenticity and is a limited edition run of 250 rods. PIKEPRO has also launched a superb range of pike flies for this increasingly popular method of pike fishing. We have also produced a trace board again developed and tested to destruction by Watto, Jon Nefcy and Dr Paul Garner these simple strong rigs will NOT let you down, all hand made in the UK we are proud that they all carry the PAC kite mark of approval. Also on the trace board are all the components you will need to make up any of our traces yourself.
